How Travel Inspires Our Creativity and Design

Travel has shaped the way I see colour, texture, design, culture, creativity, and possibility.

After visiting more than 55 countries and living in 39, I have learned that inspiration can be found almost anywhere. It lives in painted doorways, handmade paper, local markets, architecture, textiles, gardens, old streets, beautiful packaging, and the stories people carry with them.

Every destination offers a different way of seeing the world.

Some places inspire bold colour and playful patterns. Others reveal the beauty of simplicity, natural materials, quiet details, or traditions passed carefully from one generation to the next.

These experiences continue to influence the creative direction of Mom&SonCo.

Our stationery, subscription-box themes, packaging, illustrations, and future collections will draw inspiration from the places we have explored and the details that have stayed with us long after returning home.

Travel is also a powerful form of education for children.

It introduces geography, history, language, food, design, problem-solving, adaptability, and human connection through real experience. It teaches children that the world is vast, beautifully diverse, and filled with ideas waiting to be discovered.

For Maverick and me, creativity is not limited to a desk or studio. It grows through curiosity, exploration, conversation, and the courage to look beyond what is already familiar.

Through this journal, we will share some of the places, designs, traditions, and unexpected moments that inspire our work.

The world has given us an extraordinary collection of memories and ideas. Now, we have the joy of weaving some of that inspiration into Mom&SonCo.
